It's a habit thing

Emotional eating is just like any addictive pattern of behaviour - you've got into bad habits that's all.

The only way to break bad habits is to

a) be aware of them in the moment they occur and realise you're following a bad pattern
b) break the pattern by doing something different
c) continually do something different until the new habit/pattern sticks

No one pretends this is easy, but as long as you say that you can't do something for whatever reason, the less likely you are to be able to do it. The emotions don't make you eat. You are the only one who puts food into your mouth and you are the only one who can stop. But you CAN stop by taking control of this.
