"proven diets"

if you go to pubmed, the governments medical journal database (its free!) you can search through millions of pages of scientific studies. You will find most of these "herbal supplements" are worthless at best, but often very dangerous. There have been numerous reported deaths from ephedrine related products!

To be honest and realistic, there is no "magic pill" from a scientific standpoint.

Diet and exercise. Diet and exercise. You really need to track your food intake each day, find a good site that has a calorie counter and start looking at your daily caloric intake. When you look at each item individually you will see where you are hurting yourself the most (a couple of strips of bacon can add hundreds of calories to your day!). make small changes, you dont have to give up pizza complete, you just cant eat it every day.In the beginning, a bit of diet change and a good powerwalking regimen can really get you losing weight quickly. Work your exercise level up as you can.

Don't waste your time or money on low carb diets, grapefruit diets, "Fasting" diets, juice diets. Losing weight is really common sense, you learned how to eat healthy in the third grade! get back to basics, more fruit and veggies, less doritos and taco bell.
