well, i think the most important thing that any of us has to learn when beginning a new healthy lifestyle, is PORTIONS. look on the package of cereal/porridge.....if it says 1/2 cup, it means just that. it may seem so small when you first start out, but its not that bad. alot of nutritionists and dieters alike say 5 small meals a day, but, if your sticking to your oversized portions, then it does more harm than good. small portions are the key to dieting from everything i have read up on it. obviously i am not a perfect dieter, or i wouldn't still be looking to lose weight....lol. but i have noticed, at least here in the u.s., portions are just absolutely HUGE. you don't realize it until you have to lose weight. there is a website called www.calorieking.com, and it will tell you all the nutritional value of food according to the portions that you eat. start a notebook, and write down all your beginning stats, like waist measurement, neck, weight, etc. and also put in your goal stats. then, write down on each page what you eat throughout the day. and i mean everything. don't forget condiments. then, when you don't know the nutritional value of say lettuce, go to that website and find it, and add up your total calories, fat, carbs and protein that you consumed throughout the day. if the numbers are too high, you know what to do tomorrow to change that. like yesterday, i consumed 1147 calories, but 53.1 fat, 81.3 carb, and 61.2 protein. well, that ended up being 27% fat intake, which is too high for me, so i am going to change that. less fat, more carbs and protein. also make healthy decisions. last night hubby cooked hamburgers for dinner, i had him grill a boneless skinless chicken breast for me instead, and i ate 1/2 of that. although i did splurge and have a 1/2 cup of french fries, thus all the fat grams. just make the decisions that are best for you, and noone knows what those are, except for you. oh, and the treadmill and stationary bike is great, just make sure you are doing it at a good pace. as far as weights for your age, i'm not sure about that, i know alot of high school athletes here hit the gym to lift weights (including the ladies) at least 3 times a week. but i would probably stick to a cardio and toning program. because if you do start to lose the pounds you want to help your body keep up with the weight loss. well, happy dieting and good luck to you.
