Anyone here gone through weight loss surgery?

Well...I suppose my story is very similar to other women here and in the world. Had a load of kids and gained a ton (literally) of weight and now Im trying to lose it.

I want to have surgery but simply cannot afford it. Ive tried diet after diet with no success (I think some of that is willpower though).

I am extremely determined to lose weight now, I think I finally got my head in the right direction to actually make a sincere change in lifestyle. I decided to take a fairly drastic approach and follow a diet that is similar to that which people who have weight loss surgery done.

I'm starting out on a liquid diet for two weeks. Most people who have surgery are put on a clear liquid diet for a week and then go to a normal liquid diet for another week so that their stomachs can adjust to surgery. I'm using this approach to shrink my stomach, taking in only 6 oz at a time and drinking plenty of water between each two hour consumption.

After this I'm going to a soft foods diet and adding possibly some fish for two weeks, eating no more than 6 oz at a time every 3 hours or so, with a good combination of protien/carbs (much like the diet in "Body for Life")

After two weeks of that I'll introduce more solid foods at the same portions with the same combination of protien/carbs and see how this works.

If anyone is in the Dallas, Texas area and would like to join me for some walks Id love to have a walking buddy. I'm also using DDR's (Dance Dance Revolution) fitness program daily. I've joined my local rec center as they have a fitness room that will enable me to use some weights and gain some muscle.

If anyone else is interested in my progress please feel free to email me and I'll let you know how the diet plan works out.

Cricket..............the answer isn't having surgery. The side effects are huge.........and for life! When I decided to make a lifestyle change (I worked with a doctor), my girlfriends (3) got gastric bypass surgery. They lost weight quickly, but they all levelled off at about 80-90 pounds...and once they figured out how to adapt their eating, they started to gain it back.

Finally their surgeon told them that they needed to exercise and eat better..........in other words make a lifestyle change!! There is a better way.........I made the change.........and the weight has been off for over a year, but I couldn't have done it without the right team.

Good Luck

I first want to say that I am one of the people that need to lose weight. I have read alot of books and found that eating a certain amount of calories a day is essential in helping to burn calories. I believe that watching the calorie intake and finding out what it is for you would be better then a liquid diet for starters.
I also would like to say that I have a cousin that had the stomach surgery to lose weight and it helped her for awhile. She lost alot and then gradually gained about half of what she lost back. She went to another doctor, and he did tests on her and found that she had a thyroid problem, put her on medication for it and she has lost a lot of weight and kept it off and she was told that the surgery was a waste because it was her thyroid al along.

I had my stomach stapled about 6 years ago. I lost only about 30 kgs (I had about 80 kgs to lose altogether!) I have since put nearly all of the weight back on.

I am an emotional eater. The surgery stapled my stomach, but not my emotions!!

I was introduced to EFT on the 1st April (no joke, I promise!) and haven't felt the need to binge since then. I choose to eat healthy foods, and exercise daily, and so far I have lost nearly 10 kgs.

I was very sceptical about this (as I am about all things alternative!) But it works!

Take a look at my blog http://eftandme.blogspot.com/ as I have some links in there.

Regards,

Mandy
