ashamed of weightloss?

I am a writer for my highschool newspaper and was doing an article on weightloss. I thought it would be really interesting to see how otheres lost and maintained there weight beign one who struggles with weight myself. When i started interveiwing i found it extremely hard to find people to interview because the subject of weightloss was a sensitive subject. The people I have tried both lost an incredible amount of weight and look great but either wanted their name changed or not to be interviewed at all. Since it was so difficult i changed my story. WHY are people ashamed and not proud of such an amazing and hard-to-achieve accomplishment?

Please help

i think many people are embarrassed to talk about being once heavy, or overweight. It's an admission of guilt that a lot of people want to overlook. I mean, for some people being heavy is a stigma that they just want to leave behind once they lose the weight..so why talk about it? That's my take on it.
