Calories in a day ..?

Hya...

Is there a certain amount of calories that I should be eating each day in order to lose weight?

I read that it is over 1000 but this seems to many to me! I have been eating between 800 and 900, is this enough?

Thanx!

Hey there, new to this forum but eager to help!

800-1,000 calories is way too little. Recommended dietary allowances in the US and UK are based around 2,000 calorie diets; everyone's different but for an ordinary maintenance diet 2000 cals/day is a good starting point.

The problem with cutting your calories dramatically is that your body goes into conservation mode--it "believes" that you are in the middle of a famine and your metabolism slows down. Thus when you eat fewer calories, you also burn fewer calories, which results in lower energy levels, and less weight loss!

A healthier approach is to lower your calories to only slightly below the recommendation (perhaps a 1,700-1,800 calorie diet, but it will depend on your body type), and increase how many calories you burn. Try doing 40 minutes of cardio two or three times a week for starters. The result will be a higher energy level and healthier body as well as weight loss.

If you have any other Q's feel free to ask, good luck!

2000 for women
2500 for men.

of course this will be different depending upon your age and how muscular your body is. whereby larger muscle mass requires more calories.

i believe its not entirely accurate.

if she will stay in a calorie deficit for too long which is composed of the naturally created menu deficit + the deficit created by increasing the weekly activity level, she will lose not only fat, but also lean body mass along with it, the final outcome in my opinion will be a drop in weight and daily metabolism rate maintenance-wise.

My 2 Cents

The average woman needs about 1800 Cal for weight maintenance. Of course if you are only 5 feet tall you probably can get away eating 1600 about.

For sedentary people: Weight x 14 = estimated cal/day

For moderately active people: Weight x 17 = estimated cal/day

For active people: Weight x 20 = estimated cal/day

Wt. is in lbs.

Health is no longer just a desirable attribute, but a profound responsibility.
