Hello, Here's my Issue

Hello to all, I'm new on the forum. Here's my deal; I'm 51, male, 5'7", weigh 238lbs. I started at 277, so progress has been made, but still a long way to go.

I notice something in me, when I make progress, it seems like I get to a certain point and then sabotage myself. I start to eat junk, overeat, skip exercise, etc. until I gain some weight back again. Once it gets ridiculous, I stop and get on the right track again. But, this yo-yo behavior is making it impossible to really get down to where I need to be. The funny thing is, even with knowing what I do, I still do it.

Does this make any sense to anybody? What do you think? Am I nuts?

Nah, I don' think you're nuts..I think it's the body's way of saying I've hit a plateau and what do i do now? I think that at the point where you're not seeing any more progress, you need to reevaluate what you're doing and either change things up, or keep on, keeping on. Plateaus are dangerous just for this very reason if you don't hold the plateau or push through it. Our natural tendency is to lapse when things don't seem to be moving.

Just hang in there and fight thought it!

You make sense.

I think this happens when someone takes on a new form of eating as a "diet". I like to look at "dieting" as a lifestyle. So, if you eat some chips for lunch or snack in front of the television, you won't get depressed and binge later. You can recover by having a nutritional dinner.

For example, if you want chips, find chips that don't have partially hydrogenated oils or better yet, slice some potatoes and bake them in the oven. Eat real food and you might not feel the need to sabotage yourself. You'll be happy.

Good luck, you have the strength. You've made great progress!
