[font=Geneva][color=purple]Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here. My name is Trisha, I just turned 24, and I am trying to get motivated enough to stick with a diet and esercise plan to lose the 50 lbs I gained over the holidays. I keept trying to get myself to stop eating so much from Thanksgiving to Christmas but that is when everyone hits me up to try all their new foods and its so hard to turn down all that fudge.

I'm cutting back on the soda pop as I truly am addicted to caffeine. It's not as bad as when I was in high school but I still get the head aches when I don't drink as much caffeine. I've been subsituting green tea for some pop and just have ta get my self to cut back the rest. Its pretty bad when you go thru a 24 pack in less than a week.

Another problem area I have is grabbing the sneakers bar when ever I go to Wal-Mart. I love em and have a hard time saying no to them. They are one of my biggest weaknessess!

I've been exercising more like crosover crunches, knee drops (don't know the real name of it), and very little yoga. I try to walk but its pretty cold out right now and with my sons asthma and my daughter having trouble with bronchitis I can't take them with me as much as when its nice and warm outside. I've tried walking up and down the stairs but I can't stay motivated enough to do it past 5 mins and I know that that isn't enough.

Any suggestions would be wonderful.
Thanks!

Hiya Trisha. Welcome. When I read your message, I had to laugh because when I saw that 24 number, I thought I had finally found someone more caffeine addicted than me. You see, I thought it was per day. My husband and I go through more than one 12 pack per day. (We do drink diet.) You should see us in the grocery store when we get a week's worth of groceries--the week's worth of soda practically fills a cart! I know it's bad for me, but one vice at a time.

I know what you mean about the holidays being rough. They were pretty rough for me, too, and the scale proves it Oh, well. I guess we just have to move forward. I look forward to reading your posts

During the cold weather, I use an exercise video. They have one that you actually walk 3 miles in your living room. My 6 year old ends up doing it with me b/c he thinks it is fun. It is called Walk off the Pounds. Hope this helps.

Sorry I cant help you with the caffene, except maybe you can start substituting some of your drinks w/ caffine free.

Actually, Jana, I use to go through a lot more soda than I do now. I also use to drink alot of regular tea but have switched to the green tea which doesn't contain as much caffeine but still has some. I've also picked up the habbit of drinking french vinilla coffee off and on. I don't drink it every day or anything like that just mainly when I'll be pulling an 11-13 hour day at work. But still the caffeine is a big factor when you experience withdrawl headaches.

I actually haven't been doing too bad this week. Mon, Tue, and Wed I was able to get myself to drink only one can of coke or live wire and drink a 20 oz of water (which is actually alot of water for me). Yesterday I splerged and drank 3 cans of soda and no water.

Eatting wise I've cut back alot as I've eatten a strawberry cereal bar everytime I got the erge to eat a snickers bar again except for yesterday. Mon-Wed I didn't eat past 9pm as I go to bed fairly late but last night I was good and didn't eat past 8pm.

I've also been eating more salads rather than those lovely hamburgers at McDonalds except I did buy a fish filet once but no fries to go with it and I figured that the fish isn't as bad as their hamburgers.

Guess that isn't too bad for the first week on my diet.

Good Job!!! One step at a time. You are setting small accomplishable goals. Keep going. What about a protein bar when you have those snickers cravings. They help fill you up and ease the cravings, but if the cereal bars are working keep at it. You can do it!!!

Well, I'm still eating the cereal bars instead of the candy bars for the most part but my diet hasn't been doing so well since I was working 2 weeks straight especially on the 2 day of just sitting around part as you find yourself bordem eating, alot. I'm not the only one that has trouble with that at the same job so I don't feel so guilty but it still bites the big one as I haven't lost any weight. I've also been a bad girl and got back into drinking all of that soda.
I purchased a Crunch: Fat Burning Pilates workout video just last night and am going to try to do it at least every other day to begin with and try keeping a journal on hand to keep track of all that I eat to hopefully get me to realize just how much I do eat thru out the day to hopefully get myself to cut back there as well.
I bought a scale that I'm going to try to weigh myself around the same time every day but I'm rarely home at the same time everyday as I don't have a set schedule at work but at least I'll beable to see if I am losing any weight at all. I was told that if you make a point to weigh yourself every day then you will be more conscious on your diet and possibly doo better. Don't really know for sure but is worth the try.

I get you on the caffeine thing. My issue is chocolate. I lost 25 lbs last fall on Atkins and now I got it all back. I don't know how it happened. It was very gradual and for a while I lied to myself and didn't care.

1 thing I got that has already helped is a virtual after picture. I got one for free at a web site called fitfoto.com and it has really motivated me. I put up a picture of myself and it gave me a skinnier version of me to shoot for.

I hope I can stick with this. 1 week is the easy part. 1 year is hard.

Cool

I' heard that if you start the Atkins Diet that you want to make sure that you stick with it because if you don't you'll gain all the weight back plus some. I don't think I can get myself to do that kinda diet anyways because I wouldn't beable to eat pizza and it is my absolute faveroite food in the world.

I can't keep compeletly from the pop just yet like I want to but I'm not doing way too bad. I went for 4 days without pop but then during the weekeng I had 4 cans but thats still really good for me. The candy bars haven't been such a problem lately and keeping track of what I eat thru out the day seems to be helping a little. I've lost 3lbs so far and hopefully I can keep losing the weight.

I'm still trying to get myself to use my workout video more often but there are alot of days when I don't get the chance because I have to get to work way to early to get the oppurtunity or I get off way too late and my husband has taken over the tv. But at least I'm still losing a little bit of weight thru it all.

Maybe I ought ta check out that fitfoto.com to try to motivate myself. I would really like to at least get back into my size 11 pants again where as right now i'm in a size 15/16 in one brand and in another i'm in a 13/14. Either way I would love to get back into the 11's at least but would love it if I could get a little smaller than that.

Thats a great attitude. Just keep limiting yourself as much as possilble to the sweets. You can try what I do and when you start feeling the munchies come on, drink water or crystal light. Or snack on a saltine cracker.

Hi everyone. I am new here. Just found this website today. I was truly a huge diet coke drinker. I mean I would drink almost 7-8 a day. I started Weight Watchers on May 10th of 2004 and as of today, I am down 38.6 lbs. I also have changed my pop habits. I now drink Diet Rite Cola and maybe have one diet coke like every other day or possibly 1 a week. I feel so much better. I love the diet rite when I need a pop, otherwise, I drink lots of water.

I did have a few caffeine headaches when I went off the diet coke, but it went away fast. It is amazing how much better a person feels when they lose a few lbs., and change their eating habits.

I want to wish you all luck and keep in touch.

Have a nice day.

Tammy
