Just starting.
I'm trying to lose weight from having my baby. I'd like to lose 45 pounds.
I like to write in my journal of the things I eat and work outs I do
So far I lost 3 pounds in one week. I'm not doing anything special Just going for 3-4 walks a day and adding a little crunches and pushups here and there. And eating 5 small meals a day.

You've got the right approach, Jenny. 3 lbs a week is a sensible and realistic amount to lose. With the exercise, a large part of that weight lost is fat - the stuff you want to get rid of - and water. And the 5 smaller meals a day is dead on. If you get a chance, find a gym or someplace that will measure your body composition. Find out what %age of your bodyweight is fat and what amount is lean. Set a goal to lower the fat to a healthy level - say the low 20's for a start. Don't obsess with the scale. That only tells you that you've lost weight - not what the weight lost was made up of. Again, the only important number is lowering fat to a healthy level.

It looks like a good start, but it is pretty typical to drop weight quickly at the begining....especially if you are heavy and haven't been doing much for a long time. You have to stay the course. Go get 'em!

Its more than just cutting meals out. In fact, if you reduce calories too much, you will actually trash your metabolism and promote weight gain. (I speak from experience here). You also will probably have to put activity into your life as well. There is help and I know that you can do it!

I am very active and probably do more than most - when I am not working at the office - we ride horses, and ranch. I stopped smoking in August and it's been down hill since. I have been better about meals and not eating too much, but enough to keep from starving. I LOVE sugar and that'smy downfall. Today I began my new exercise regimine - in the morning before work I go to the Y and at lunch I hit the gym at a local church (it has a real nice indoor track) . Maybe using weights in the morning and getting 2-3 miles in at lunch will do the trick. I weighed in at 139 today - i have NEVER EVER weighed this much in my life (I am only 39) and while I am not huge - and my cloths sizes are still in the single digits - I't alarming to me that all of a sudden something happened to my body where it won't process things the way it used to.

Well done Jenny. Try to keep your diet and exercise varied though - otherwise your body will get used to the tolerance and the weight loss will stop.
Keep us posted.
