Menacing mother

I'm constantly trying to refine my diet. I shop for fruits, grains, vegatables, and typically try to avoid buying junkfood while at the grocery store. My idea is that, if good food is in my house, then my diet will be good and I'll will overcome my eating disorder.

However, I don't live alone, and my mom is notorious for bringing home junk food (chocolate on chocolate cake, last night). I find it very difficult to manage a healthy diet in my parents home, especially when her dinners contain explosive amounts of crisco or margarine. I've asked her countless times to please stop the abuse but she shrugs at me when I try to speak about my disorder.

I'm running out of time, no one can live like this. I hope this slightly misplaced thread can still capture someone attention. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't think you are the one with the eating disorder here; you're trying hard enough to eat healthy. I think your mother is the one with a problem. And I think it's sad she won't listen to you or atleast let you be free to eat what you think is good. One idea would be offering her to cook instead. Even if you're not a great cook (according to yourself) remember you don't have to be Jamie Oliver to cook up a tasty meal that is also healthy. There are tons of easy recipes you can find on the net.

If your cooking skills aren't the problem, but your mom simply won't enable you to cook, the only sullution would be to once again try to talk some sense into her. You could (for example, if you haven't already) mention the dangers of such an unhealthy lifestyle. If she still doesn't want to listen, then you could offer cooking seperately. She can eat her junkfood dinners and you can fix your own healthy meals; both sides happy.

Also, exersise is an important part of healthy living. Find yourself a sport that fits your interest , go take the dog for a longer walk than usual, go by bike instead of car whenever that's possible, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc.

Lastly, be strong and try not to give in to eating any snacks. No more eating or drinking (except water) after 8 pm also helps.

Good luck! And if you have more questions, just ask!
