Talking New here but with a "great" diet question :(

I am 20 years old, 5'7, weighing 225 pounds. My goal is to reach 175 or less and buld muscle after that. Someone at work told me of a great way to loose weight but it just seems weird. Everyone at work is doing this doctor diet thing now. You can loose anywhere from 6 to 12 pounds a week. That just seems a bit high and unhealthy. You start off by going to the doctor, $175 for initial visit. The $175 includes an EKG, blood work, and first set of pills which include appetite killers and calcium fat burners and an energy injection that includes sugars, amino acids, etc.

They recommend you take SOME kind of multi-vitamin, wether it be theirs OR over-the-counter. Along with that is a VERY strict diet regiment in which you must follow. You must revisit the doctor every week for re-weighing and refills on your pills and your energy injection. It is $50 a week for every visit. They are serious about you eating what they tell you to eat and not to cheat. My banker used to weigh 380 lbs. He is now at 273 lbs. 380 was his weight on halloween. I think that is awsome. I saw him yesterday and he looks thinner than ever! I have set up an appointment tomorow with them. I am just wondering, what is this type of diet called? How bad can this be for your health? Everyone around me is loosing crazy weight and feeling happier than ever! How hard do you think it will be to MAINTAIN the lost weight? ANY info would be GREAT! I have been trying to research this type of weight loss online but don't even know where or how to begin to search for it since I don't know what to call it. Thanks!

i think any diet program telling someone they can lose anything more than 4 pounds a week is nuts...fast fixes dont make the body lose it right..you get comfortable thinking ok..i lost ten pounds in one week get all happy and comfty and think you can go back to your old habits....wrong..all you end up doing is gaining it back..you have to teach your body and yourself slowly how to eat better..and keep it off..weaning yourself into a new lifestyle. I know its been two yrs for me..and ive kept off 70 pounds..and i dont find an eruge to eat junk anymore..just isnt as appealing anymore..just angers me when i see commericals mislead some in thinking losing ten pounds a week is healthy...it took a while to gain it will take a while to lose it but in the end its all worth it..

Exactly, your metabolism sometimes will either pick right up with the right dieting techniques, or take a while (2 months?) to really start burning the fat. I know personally, that even with running 2 miles a day, eating and drinking correctly, it still takes time for me to get my metabolism going. But when it kicks in, wow, is it powerful.

The problem with this sort of program is that it isn't sustainable. As soon as you stop taking the pills..........ALL the weight will come back...and a bit more to boot.

Its about realistic, sustainable lifestyle change....not quick fixes! I worked with a doctor that did all the basics and then educated, supported and made me accountable. The weight has been off for almost 2 years. Be careful and do it right

Yes You Can Loose Weight

I'm afraid I do not agree at all with all expressed here.
Yes there is a way to loose weight fast, reliably, healthy but unfortunately not cheap.
I tried it myself and I am the living proof that it works.
It is the brazilian diet pills called Emagrece Sim. But be very very carefull, there are a lot of unhealthy imitations, beginning from those backed by Johnson's Pharmaceutical that are making people very sick. You have to buy ONLY the original Emagrece Sim made in Brazil by a company called Phytotherm Sim. The kit comes in a presentation of 2 bottles, one with 90 yellow pills and one with 90 orange pills plus a body gel for cellulite treatment.
It is a complete weight loss program that must be followed meticolously in order to achieve the advertised results of loosing up to 70 lb or even more over a 5 stage period.
It really works and has no side effects at all !!!!
The problem is that is very difficult to find.
The only reliable source is www.newemagrecesim.com where you can buy the pills online at 499 per kit.
There are also other pills that are not so much effective, but much more cheaper, that are called Emagrece Ja, and you can find the at www.emagreceja.info
Each kit sells for 239 and can also be bought online.
Pay much much attention at the product you buy. Imitations can be very dangerous.
Good luck
Luisa

Anyone ...DON"T even think about what Luisa has posted here. Do a quick search on Google about Brazilian diet pills.

FDA Warns Consumers about Brazilian Diet Pills Found to Contain Active Drug Ingredients
Emagrece Sim and Herbathin Dietary Supplements May be Harmful

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers not to use two unapproved drug products that are being marketed as dietary supplements for weight loss. Emagrece Sim Dietary Supplement, also known as the Brazilian Diet Pill and Herbathin Dietary Supplement may contain several active ingredients, including controlled substances, found in prescription drugs that could lead to serious side effects or injury.

Think before you even consider following such stupid and dangerous advice as given by this poster. Your health and well being isn't worth the risk. Any diet pills as a matter of fact pose such risks.

the key word in that one persons post is...be very very careful. I dont get it why would you want to put your body and your health into the hands of drugs to help you lose the weight. There are lots and lots of people like myself that have done it the healthy and natural way. People have been battling weight for decades..and pills have only but come into play within the last decade or two..bring with it risks, and even death. Think before you put something in your mouth or body in the form of a pill. You might lose the weight but the long term effects of taking that drug might not show till way down the line. Get strong and make the commitment to change your lifestlye. Sure it will be hard at first..but once you start feeling the change youll be more than determined to keep going. good luck

Speaking as a person who has used diet pills before, they just dont work long term. I did have success losing weight. But the weight usually returns within 2 years when you go off the pills.

When I was 17 I used phen/fen and lost about 70 lbs. But I reached a platuea even with the pills and so I went off of them naturally when the combination was banned. And so within just a few years I gained all the weight back. Then later on in 2001, I went on Meridia. I lost the same amount of weight and plataued right at 220 lbs again (Im 5'10) So I was still 30 lbs from my goal weight. And I couldnt get any lower. Eventually I had to go off the pills because they were making me moody and are dangerous. Within about 2 years I regained the weight and even more. Meridia has been taken off the market because it caused some deaths.

So I guess the only way is without medications. But trying the last year, I have lost 10 lbs and thats it. And I am still 100 lbs overweight.

So I dont think diet and exercise work either. Frankly, once you're fat, your'e fat for life.

True, there are people who keep the weight off, but they have to work at it crazy. In fact just to maintain the weight, they have to think about it constantly. Because once they stop , the weight comes back. Then there are many people like me who simply cant lose weight without medications (which are dangerous) or sugery (which is deadly)

So we're left without a choice really.

I read your post about the Dr Diet and some of the responses. I'm not surprised at any of them. I was overweight and just as confused as anyone. I lost 70 pounds, reduced my body fat from 39% to 18.6% and my waist size by 6". This was after I spent twenty years overweight, miserable and unable to lose weight. I just didn't understand why. I spent 2 years doing research and got certified as a personal trainer and sports nutritionalist.
THe key isn't weight loss it's FAT loss. Any program that tells you you can lose 4 pounds of fat in a week is fake, period. Once you learn how your body works you'll understand this.
A pound of fat is 3500 calories. To lose 4 pounds a week you need to burn 14,000 calories less than you take in. If you're on a 3000 calorie a day diet, you only take in 21,000. So do you really beleive permanent weight loss can be accomplished on 7000 calories a week.

most fast diet plans are water loss. This is dangerous and temporary. Your muscles are 75% water, if you lose water, you lose lean muscle mass, and slow your metabolism. Just what you don't want to happen.

Good luck, Martin Harshberger http://www.livingtobeyounger.com
