My friends docter told her that if she's craving sweets, eat a few pickles. Supposedly it's suppose to curb your sweet craving. I haven't tried it out, as I dont' relly grave sweets, but I do know that a nice, juicy pickle is good when you're hungry.

Sweet Pickles?

Wow Jess - I have never heard that before. I certainly do crave sweets and I am definitely going to try that one.

Thanks for the tip!

Hmm I am not sure i could just eat a pickle on its own
It would not taste great at all. I thought pickles were quite high in salt and therefore bad for you?

Hmmm

If i crave sweets i like to munch on baby carrots, sweet but very good for you.

Also, once a month I go to the local produce market, buy about 20 dollars worth of fruit, cut it all up into little cubes, mix it up, bag it up into sandwich sized ziplog baggies. Then its ready for smoothies, one glass of skim milk and about a cup of fruit, and you have instant satisfaction. Plus we get like 15-20 different kinds of fruit in there, so you really get a good variety of vitamins and minerals for a very low caloric price.

It doesn't have to be a pickle. Anything sour will do. Maybe a lemon drop or lemon candy. Sour lozenges etc. The theory is that when you crave a certain taste, eat a bit of food that is the opposite.

Pickles are definitely a great low carb snack.
Although it certainly does not have to be just pickles...
For some other great snack ideas there are plenty of sites online: low carb snacks. Have fun with it!

Cool Low on Fat, And Large on Flavor

This to me is a special occasion desert, like a birthday, anniversary, or if you have reached an important goal in your weight loss program.

Peppermint brownies

~You will need~

For Brownies:

* 1package fudge brownie mix
* 4 Tbsp. instant dry, powdered skim milk
* 1-1/2 cups skim milk
* 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
* 2 egg whites
* 1 tsp. peppermint extract
* Non-Stick Vegetable oil-cooking spray

For Toppings:

* 1 qt. low fat vanilla ice cream
* 1 cup fat free chocolate sauce
* 15 peppermint candies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly coat bottom of 13" - 9" with non-stick vegetable oil cooking spray.

In small bowl, combine skim milk powder with skim milk and stir until dissolved.

In a large bowl, combine the brownie mix, applesauce, egg whites, peppermint extract, and skim milk mixture. Spread evenly in prepared pan.

Bake 30 to 35 minutes. Do not over-bake. When brownies are cool cut into 14 even pieces.

Top each brownie with 1/4 cup vanilla ice cream, 1 Tbsp. fat free chocolate sauce, and 1 peppermint candy. Serve immediately. (15 servings)
