I'm new, too.
I managed to lose 35 pounds in the past 10 months, the major part of which was lost in the first four months. I gained back a little during Thanksgiving and Christmas but was able to take that off in the past month. Right now I'm just maintaining when I want to lose. I'm having trouble keeping my mind on track. I find that I simply must keep a daily diet journal to stay on track. I calculate the calories in everything I cook. I 'm trying to eat no more than 1400 calories per day now. I lost the 35 pounds on 1600 calories per day.
Yesterday morning on the Mike and Juliet TV Show there was a discussion of the four most successful diets. "Volumetrics" was considered the very best diet. Most people had never heard of it including me. From what I could gather, the diet teaches you about the high volume, low calorie foods (like soups and salads) that you should eat to start your meals. You fill yourself up with these low calorie, high volume foods before you eat your main meal. Sounds like a good idea to me. I decided to order the book. I'll let you know how it goes in case you want to try it.
Even before getting the book I'm starting to eat a lettuce salad with a low calorie Wishbone Spritzer dressing before both my lunch and dinner. You can eat a lot of lettuce, cucumber, green onion, and shredded carrot to get 100 calories. After eating the large salad I'm too full to eat much of my regular meal.
