bagged meals
It can be expensive to eat out, I imagine. Bagged lunches, etc. could be inexpensive. Bread for sandwiches tend not to cost much, and sandwiches aren't so heavy to carry. Canned Tuna, salmon, low-fat cheese slices or pickled eggs can make inexpensive sandwiches. Throw into some sandwiches some very green lettuce, maybe even a slice of tomato, and also carry a few ready-to-eat baby-formed carrots, and you've got quick, nutritious and inexpensive meals
Ideally, you might live close enough to college to go back to your dorm, etc., for some more variety in your meals. When home, you might have cooked or fresh veggies, including salad/lettuce, more ready to eat baby-formed carrots. I use frozen vegetables a lot, big bags of frozen broccoli, cauliflower, mixed veggies, etc., and find that's not very expensive per serving. I usually can find apples and oranges -- my main fruits -- at good prices. Canned beans -- especially nutritious soybeans -- with a little tomato catchup thrown in, are delicious and inexpensive. That, plus salmon or tuna burgers from the frozen section of my supermarket, and skim milk constituted most of my inexpensive meals. (I get my skim milk From big bags of powdered milk, and sometimes I throw in some artificial sweetener/Splenda to make the skim milk truly delicious. For a bedtime snack I"ll have a slice of Dempster's (only in Canada?) bread: the Whole Wheat with Oats And Honey, 110 cal. a slice and sweet-- I'll even dip it in sweetened milk if I want more sweetness. Wherever you live, maybe you can probably find delicious, fairly low Cal, bread that can constitute an occasional nice snack. Sometimes I'll have a cup of artificially sweetened (cheap) supermarket (No-Frills) fennel tea for something sweet to finish off a meal. You can use other teas. And apples and oranges of course can make great desserts by themselves.
Your taste buds do adjust fairly quickly to what you get used to eating; I can't stand rich, supersweet or fatty foods now, and I love what I do eat.
I'm pretty sure you'll find inexpensive, nutritious food with which you can lose weight. Good luck
